Anatomy of “Plotus anhinga” (n.d. - now Anhinga anhinga)
The Anhinga is also known as the Darter, Snakebird, American Darter, or Water Turkey. It’s a unique bird that often swims with just its head and neck above the water, and appears much as a snake. They eat any fish that comes near them, and have a super-fast strike, thanks to their unique neck anatomy.
